Jun. 4th, 2010 03:44 pmAn acquaintance of mine via my brother was talking about needing some help with his computer. I indicated that it was something that I might have the necessary resources to help with. He suggested having me go over to his place to work on it. I said I might be able to do that, and he could buy me dinner or something in return.
He was dismissive of that request, so it appears I may have to be dismissive of his too. Not that I dislike him or anything, but if I'm going to spend a couplethree hours going to your house, rebuilding your machine, backing up and restoring your data with my hardware, AND letting you use one of my Windows XP keys because your friend told you you could "just peel off all those stickers on your computer".... Well. I don't exaggerate a whole lot when I often say that I hate computers. If I'm going to work on yours for free, especially if I have to leave the house, that means you're either a really good friend or a family member. There are a good number of people who fit in that category, mind you. But I'm not doing it for just anybody.
Like the song says: that's what I get paid for.

These two bronzes designed by James Earle Fraser are collectively called The Arts of Peace. They stand on great stone pedestals over the DC parkway west of the Lincoln Memorial. Though designed in the late '20s, they were not erected until the '50s when Italy cast them in bronze as a gift to the United States.
In the foreground is Music and Harvest. In the background is Literature and Aspiration. Pictures of these two statues individually are also in my Flickr account.
