I should start of my recap of the week with a very warm ありがとう ございます (arigatō gozaimasu) to [livejournal.com profile] cranberrynomiko, as well as her partner R, for having me over to her place on Tuesday evening to teach me to make bread. I started from scratch with yeast and eggs and flour and everything, and I mixed and stirred and kneaded (and kneaded and kneaded and...) and in a few hours, by what seems like a kind of alchemy, there was bread! Bread which I'm still enjoying greatly. Thank you so much for the help!

The three of us also played one of the sort of draw-your-own-railroad games that I love so much (I have four or five of them now, though they are all in Racine; I'll have to get the rest of 'my' games from there some time.) and they treated me to an excellent dinner of beef roast and fried potatos. Now, I've always been a little nervous about meat. I order everything well-done, and if there's any pink, or runny pinkish liquid, it squicks me. But considering how I've been eating sushi lately, it seems kind of silly to feel that way about beef. So though the roast wasn't as done as I usually like beef, I ate it anyway. And it was good! Good enough that, today, when [livejournal.com profile] serinthia and I went out for lunch, I asked for my hamburger to be prepared medium instead of well. And that was good too! See, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Speaking of sushi, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] danaeris, who I mentioned meeting at Dellacon, in Elmhurst for that very thing on Wednesday! I had a completely wonderful evening with her as we went from the sushi shop to Coldstone Creamery for a treat, and then just sat down on a bench and talked as all the little shops up and down York street shut down for the night. To shorten a story that I could otherwise go on at some length about, it's an evening that's made me very happy as I've thought about it during the rest of the week since.

Yesterday was my third Japanese class. We learned numbers and time, primarily. I spent the train ride home working through saying different times in my head, and putting together sentences about when work starts and ends and what time things happen. We learned another set of hiragana, and my practice on those is coming along. I'm still really enjoying the class and I look forward to next week. Another reason I'd like to stay in city after January is so that I can enroll in the next level class.

And from there, I move into the weekend! I'm actually in the office today so I can take the CTA back to my apartment with Serin. We're going to have an evening of watching movies and doing hair braiding! Then it's up to Kenosha to visit [livejournal.com profile] todd_riverden, my parents, and Michelle, then back to Chicago on Sunday for an urbex trip with [livejournal.com profile] synicism. Busy busy!
