Oct. 14th, 2010 04:19 pmI'm a registered member of the American Anthropological Association. Also, since I was required to choose an internal section, I'm also a member of the Society of Lesbian and Gay Anthropologists (which seems, according to their website, to include bi and transgendered people). I figured that whether I'm solidly in their userbase as a bisexual or not, I'm more than happy to support them.
The person I talked to at the society was very helpful and suggested I register for the cheaper associate membership which I wasn't sure if I was eligible for or not instead of the professional one. He even gave me his phone number to give him a call in case I have any trouble. Nice guy!
I have also registered to attend the yearly meeting in New Orleans. Now I have to figure out what programming to attend. I have to admit, I'm a little bit worried that I will lack sufficient background frame of knowledge to appreciate some of it. Maybe I can look at what sounds interesting, and then use my membership in the AAA to explore their online resources to do some reading and studying on the topics I want to know more about. I'm not sure what all is available that way, but I hope to have fun finding out!
Finally, using some good basic flashcard software I found free on the internet, I have a set of 111 Japanese words to work on learning on my laptop. I'll go through those as I take the L in to the Loop today to my class.
Which I need to leave for in about ten minutes, so I should probably get my stuff together.
But lastly, as I've listend to NPR's pledge drive today, and they keep talking about how they need to get over 9000 members this drive, I can't help but find this silliness continuing to come to mind.
