Midwest Fur Fest was really good.

The whole weekend was spend in the company of friends. Andrea and I saw all of our now basically collective pool of Chicago area friends. The weekend was so very different from my first Fur Fest last year. I spent the whole con just lurking and wandering, finally having mustered the courage to *gasp* talk to somebody on the last day *waves at [livejournal.com profile] daveqat*. My life changed so much since then. I never believed I'd be able to walk into a con, as I did this past Friday and, just walking through the hallway on the way to registration, find a half dozen people I know and who want to talk to me. what I have is pretty damn close to my ideal life. People I love and care about and my mate to share it with. My dear one and I saw more mutual friends this weekend than I ever thought I'd have. The energy at the con was so good, and everyone so happy and friendly... It was simply a magical weekend for both of us, I think.

We got our one major problem of the con out of the way right at the start, which is probably a good thing. We ended up leaving again shortly after our arrival late Friday evening to retrieve a misplaced wallet from a truck stop on the Indiana/Michigan border. Returning to the hotel, Andrea went up to our room where [livejournal.com profile] farm_cat, who we were sharing the room with for a night, had already crashed. Meanwhile, I, after tucking her in, went indefatiguably downstairs to get on a DDR pad with [livejournal.com profile] steviemaxwell. Finally the need for sleep caught up with me and I went back to the room.

Saturday was spent mainly perusing the dealer's room and wandering the con, talking to whoever we happened to bump into. We picked up a bunch of prints from dealers, my beloved bought the fifth Ozy and Millie book for me, and she won a really nice piece in the art auction. My mother got a piece from there too, come to think of it. During one of our forays through the hucster's room we bumped into her and spent a while looking at furry art. Though she was at first a little concerned over my mom's reaction to some of the art on display, when my raccoon found a, though not blatantly yiffy, definately nude picture of a cheetah who looked oddly like me, she had to show my mother to get her opinion. Verdict; he does look rather like me.

In the evening my love and I went out for food at Fuddrucker's (decidedly unimpressive; my burger was undercooked and seemed to contain little bits of gristle)accompanied by [livejournal.com profile] boixboi, [livejournal.com profile] tygercowboy, and many other furs. Though the food wasn't anything to write about, the company was. It was good to see Tyger face to fact for the first time.

After dinner Andrea's feet were rather hurting (a situation I'm pretty familiar with), so we went back to the room. She laid down to get some rest, and I went off to see if I could find our friend Lisa who, besides being a security staff member and all around fun person, is pretty good at fixing that sort of thing. She was kind enough to come back and make Andrea feel better and we got to spend a while chatting about this con, the strangeness at Windycon two weeks before, and just spend some nice time hanging out.

Afterwards we took advantage of being rested and less achy to a little more wandering and soon found ourselves down in the security office, from whence Lisa, Uncle Vlad, [livejournal.com profile] datahawk, [livejournal.com profile] wyldekyttin, and others watched over the crazy fanboys and fangirls. Andrea introduced me to my first wasabi peanut *ohhh yeahhhhh* and the two of us snuggled on the couch with Lisa to watch Much Ado About Nothing on the T.V. there and listen to the security radios. That was cool.

Sunday, after waking up pleasantly late, we spent a little more time in the dealer's room, a while more in the con suite, talked to [livejournal.com profile] tincrash outside the art show for a while (he made a very nice badge for my dear one and seems like a pretty nice guy), and bumped into my youngest brother and my mother who had come back to pick up the art she won. It was so good to see my mom and brothers again. Jim is very differant from me and we had our share of fights, but I love hanging around with him. As for Tim, he was probably a good inch taller than last time I saw him. He's really growing up. I miss them.

Finally we had to be on our way. We loaded up the car and said our goodbyes to everyone we could find. Bumping into [livejournal.com profile] roolander on the way out still makes me smile. We said goodbye, then my dear one leaned over to give him a kiss, so then I leaned over to give him a kiss, and he just smiled and said in that cute roo voice "That was awesome". *giggle*

I'm going to miss everyone I saw this weekend. [livejournal.com profile] farm_cat, my brothers, [livejournal.com profile] boixboi, Lisa, [livejournal.com profile] daveqat, Synicism, [livejournal.com profile] blithwulf, [livejournal.com profile] roolander, [livejournal.com profile] steviemaxwell, Uncle Vlad, [livejournal.com profile] wyldekyttin, [livejournal.com profile] tincrash, [livejournal.com profile] tygercowboy and everyone, everyone else who we saw and talked to and chatted with and hung out with, especially anyone I've forgotten, amidst all the stuff that we did, to mention here. You all made our weekend wonderful.
I'm still riding high on the magic and good energy. Great big hugs to all of you!
