I had a decent time at my grandparent's house tonight. Jim and I brought DDR, and we took Lara along as well. People were once again complimenting me on my perfomrance in the play and telling me I really look like I've lost weight. Heh. I seemed to be much more relaxed than I usually am when dealing with several people. My aunt Mickey and I shared a few laughs while we were playing Apples to Apples. It was nice. We showed off DDR to those interested, and played some pinball.
My grandparents have two pinball machines. One from the late 80's or perhaps early 90's, which has a Monte Carlo theme, and one from '76 which is a Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy machine, as in the Elton John album. I don't know about the album, but that machine has a soul. The new one has a plastic backscreen whereas the old one is etched and painted glass. Beautiful. The playfield is painted wood, the art is fantastically odd, the feel of the flippers has some real life, not like new ones where you feel entirely disconnected from the machine. And the guts! If you watch the inside of the machine while it's on, the hugely complex system of electro-mechanics inside is spinning, sparking, clacking, popping, it's wonderful. A real marvel. I love that machine. I spent many, many hours on it as a much younger boy. I know every sound it makes by heart, sort of like my associaion with Origin's classic Ultima 4. Heh, I'm such a geek.
Got to hug my granparents. Once when I got there, once when I left. Yay! ^_^ Looks like long hours at work this week. Wish me patience and strength of foot...
