Sep. 9th, 2011 10:41 amI'm going to write another catch-up post as I sit here in the Student Union. I'm between my 9 to 10 Geography class and my 11 to 12 history class, so I have a little time. Sadly, the network here seems to be having problems and I can't get to the interent to catch up on mail and things, but that's ok. I have enough other stuff to do.
I learned this morning that I can make it to Parkside in time for my 9 o' clock class with room to spare if I leave Chicago around 7 in the morning. I haven't had the chance to see
lisagems in a while, and I'll be away this weekend, so I decided to pay her a visit yesterday after school and doing some writing for my history class. She and I got some yummy Chinese food near Boy's Town, then spent the evening snuggled on the couch and chatting until she constructed a make-shift nest for the both of us out of the couch and the cushions from the love seat (she's still in the midst of getting unpacked, through no fault of her own) for us to sleep in/on.
I know that it's because of the fixation I have on hair, but it gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to wake up next to someone I care about, then reach for my hair scrunchy and things and find them mixed into a little pile of such things belonging to both of us.
I got breakfast at White Castle 'cause it was directly on the way to school, then had to find a parking place. I knew the preferred parking lot next to the end of campus my classes are on would be full. But the parking lot I usually use instead was, though not full, closed! I ended up parking off in a tertiary lot by the physical plant across the road from most of the campus. I learned a little later that there'd been a gas leak in a couple of halls of the campus and that those buildings and associated parking lots were closed.
But regardless, I got to class between five and ten minutes before it started. Close, but I made it. I was much relieved to sit down at the desk.
I have a bunch to say about school, but I will probably do so in another entry. In this one, I'm going to write more about slightly less recent activities.
Last weekend was Labor Day weekend, just prior to the start of school on Wednesday this week. I spent it in Madison with my beloved
danaeris. She was doing studying for her upcoming GRE and wanted to combine some studying in a quiet, air-conditioned hotel room with a trip with me out to Madison. There were a few things out there we'd been planning to visit, and the Taste of Madison was happening as well.
Though we didn't make it out to Taliesin, House on the Rock, or the Forevertron, it wasn't for lack of motiviation. We merely found our days full enough without the longer trips! In the mornings, I generally went wandering about and photographing things, but in the afternoons the two of us tried yummy things at the Taste and explored together! We tried chocolate-chip cookie-dough eggrolls among other things (They were interesting, yummy, and really sweet; one was a little more than enough.) We took a tour of Monona Terrace, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed convention center that, oddly enough, wasn't built until 1994. We also took a slow stroll around the Wright-designed Unity Meeting Hall, a building that was very much more Wright's distinctive style and was neat to see.
But best of all was simply getting to spend a peaceful and happy weekend sharing several memorable experiences with my dear kitty. Have I mentioned how entirely wonderful and adorable she is?
Prior to she and I going out to Madison, I was in Chicago for a few days to help
lisagems with her move to the aforementioned new apartment. I'm inexpressibly glad to see her out of the old place, and to have helped get her there. Even the movers were commenting on how much nicer the new place was than the old one!
Though they did most of the heavy work, there was still a lot of last minute packing and moving of fragile items to do, as, I suspect, there nearly always is in a move. I had a few minutes of panic when I thought I'd lost her apartment keys, but she told me that I was over-reacting and calmed me down, and then I found them anyway and all was well. And after my arrival on Tuesday night, driving back and forth with loads of boxes on Wednesday, and doing what I could to help with the move on Thursday, she was finally out of the old and into the new and I was pretty exhausted.
I was also pretty in need of getting to Aurora to leave early with Friday to make sure that Danae and I could get to Madison in plenty of time for her appointments at the college, so I hit the road westward. I also was coming down with some kind of sickness, though at the time I thought it was allergies from the air at Lisa's old place. I ended up being feeling pretty icky for most of Friday and into Saturday morning, but then it cleared up to a low-grade sort of coughing and sniffling, the last vestiges of which are, finally, fleeing my system.
And with that, I finally seem to have internet connectivity here, and I have class in twenty minutes, so I'm going to post this and then get to my History class. More later!
