After school today, I managed to finally install the new light in the downstairs stairwell today! My mom bought it a month or so ago when she and I and [livejournal.com profile] danaeris were out looking at stuff for my room. It just took me until now to find time to do something with it.

New fixtures don't mesh well with 80+ year old houses. The ceiling box was something really bizarre, with a sort of round bit with an eccentric cam sticking out of it that had a threaded hole to put a bolt in, and the whole thing turned around in a circle if you pushed it. I have no idea what it was for. I finally got the new fixture mounted after going to the hardware store to buy a shorter bolt. It still doesn't quite sit flush with the ceiling, but you can't tell without staring at it, and that's good enough. It already feels weird walking up and down those stairs with the light off, and I really don't think that light was working since I was in high school.

I misunderstood yesterday; we didn't have a Spanish exam today; we were getting the results of our last one back. Heh. Despite my dream of a few days ago that I had received a B on it, I ended up with a 96. But all my studying today for the non-exam probably didn't hurt. Now I need to work on making sure I'm ready for the politics exam tomorrow. I feel pretty good about it after learning more about the format yesterday in class.

What's making me nervous is the upcoming papers. They're due toward the end of November, and October is going away fast. I'm going to be concentrating most of my time this evening on initial stages of them. I have a 4 to 6 page paper for history that's a critical analysis of a book I have a copy of based on the book itself and on some documents in the primary document reader we have. There's a 4-5 page anthropology paper that will be an analysis and response to a current article of our choice from popular media that relates to the class material. For geography, we have a biography of a prominent American from an ethnic group that's faced discrimination. That was supposed to be due on the 11th of next month, but I asked the professor about it a week or so ago and he said that, because he hasn't talked about it class yet, the due date will be pushed back. I don't know when yet; he hasn't mentioned it. I'm going to ask him again tomorrow. And finally, for Politics, there's a 1500-3000 (6-10 pages, he says) word paper that can be on one of three topics presented in the syllabus. That one is due rather later (the 12th of December) but is a bit more in-depth.

So tomorrow, I'm going to go to the library at the university after school and find an article for the anthro paper. I already have all the material for history, so I just need to keep reading it. For geography, I don't have many details about the nature of the paper or when it will be due, so I need to ask tomorrow. And for politics, I think I've decided on one of the topics and already took the book mentioned in it (Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman) out of the library to start reading.

At least two, maybe three, are due in about three weeks. I think I have time to get them done, but I need to start dealing with them now.

And manage to study for my exams at the same time!
