stormdogWhat a coincidence, that I should be reading an excerpt from Margaret Sanger's "The Case for Birth Control" in my history textbook on the same day that I read this bile coming from Rush Limbaugh about how women who use birth control are "sluts" and "prostitutes". From 1917 to 2012, how long it's taken to go so little distance.
Are you enraged by the kind of filth that people like Limbaugh espouse? You should be. You should be. These aren't things that don't affect you. They aren't things that will just go away.
"What can man know of the fear and dread of unwanted pregnancy? What can man know of the agony of carrying beneath one's heart a little life which tells the mother every instant that it cannot survive?"
What can he know indeed? Certainly Mr. Limbaugh has not had this experience. Nevertheless, he feels entitled to hurl vile rhetoric *not* just at an individual woman, but at *every woman who expects decent medical care to include birth control*! Are you a slut for using contraception? Is your girlfriend a prostitute because she wants to finish school? Is your wife a slut because her minimum wage job that the fiscal right already thinks pays her too much puts her in a position where she feels unable to financially take care of a child?
I am enraged. I hope you are too. And I hope you won't let the people who share these beliefs that were already outdated almost a hundred years ago get into offices where they can push them onto you.
