Feb. 22nd, 2004 09:30 pmSaturday was great! Got up early to get my dear one's oil changed, then went to eastern market to get Tony's Sweet Hots (pickles) for my dad at Fire in the Market, a wonderful hot sauce place. My last purchase from there, Professor Phardtpounders Colon Cleaner (a fabulous Scotch Bonnet sauce) is still sitting in the fridge, though the level in the bottle has been somewhat reduced since I bought it.
Next stop was Xochilmiko's, an extremely tasty Mexican restaurant down in Detroit that my raccoon introduced me to when I was still visiting from Wisconsin. Mmm, a well fed puppy is a happy puppy. Then, we went across the street to a Mexican grocery store where
Then, it was off to the Gibraltar Trade Center. My star indulged me as I wandered about the computer show, picking up a gadget or two here and there. I picked up a socket 370 heatsink/fan for her mother's machine, a couple of RCA jack cables for a dollar each (couldn't pass 'em up), a cheap NIC for the system I was planning to build, and even found a serial mouse for my 486 so I can play my old DOS games. It was untested but only cost a buck so I picked out the most well preserved looking one and took a chance. Did it work? Well, I spend about four hours today configuring and playing Ultima 7. *smiles*
Also got a much better deal on a case and power supply than I had expected. $32 and change got me a mid tower ATX case that actually looks kinda spiffy, and it included a 400 watt power supply. Slick!
Then we headed over to the antique show occurring concurrently in the other half of the reserved show area of Gibraltar. Andrea found a couple of neat things like a really nice pewter goblet (for ebay) and some earrings for herself. Pretty raccoon....
As evening approached, we headed once more onto the road to visit
Today was a really nice, lazy day to contrast to our dashing about on Saturday. Andrea spent most of the day job hunting (wish her luck please; the sooner she's out of her old place the better.) and doing ebay. Out of our 21 current listings, 8 have bids already and they all have at least 3 days left.
Meanwhile, I spent a good number of hours with my 486DX/66, configuring it to run Ultima 7 (a wonderful DOS game with a very non-standard memory manager that does not play well with others) and then having a wonderful time exploring Britannia for a while. Somewhere amidst the adventuring, I used my new parts and my brothers old mobo to build my newest system, an Athlon Thunderbird 900mhz system. Of course, it has a whopping 32MB of ram and I think a 4MB video card, but hey, that's what I had laying around. I may turn it into a linux box, if I can figure out how to install it. John suggested trying Mandrake as a Linux virgin. Supposedly easier to install. Anyway, it's been a long time since I spent a day just fiddling with computers and it was really nice. I have to get geekland more organized though. I'm up to 5 systems and 5 monitors now (I need another one) and not only am I running out of room, but it gets kind of hot in here.
We've both been stressed by events of the week and Andrea worries so much; I think she worries about taking time for herself. Finally though, this evening, after a yummy dinner of fish (raccoons do seem to be partial to fish, no?) I managed to get my sweetie to stay still for a nice long foot rub that turned into a nice long massage, that turned into... more fun. It's amazing how much better some playtime makes one feel... Plus, I love just sitting and paying attention to her like that, giving pawrubs or massages. She's getting another nice long massage after work tomorrow too. *smiles* Gotta keep the 'coongirl happy, don't we?
