Fundraising
Mar. 9th, 2014 02:15 pmI'm taking a quick break from work to talk about fundraising I'm working on! Pretend it's like listening to public radio.
I'm selling chocolate bars to support the trip I'm going on to work with Las Zapatistas in Chiapas for a week.
Las Zapatistas are an indigenous separatist group in southern Mexico. They oppose economic colonialism and neoliberal incursions into their traditional lands, as well as refusal of the Mexican state to recognize their rights.
The actual trip is already paid for, but I have some chocolate bars that I'm selling to raise money for things like Zapatista educational programs and medical supplies. If that seems like the sort of thing you'd like to support, and you'd like to get some chocolate at the same time, let me know! The chocolate is made by Seroogy's, a family-owned company in De Pere, Wisconsin.
I'm not sure where their cocoa is sourced from, and I'd hate to think they're supporting cocoa plantation slavery, but I'm not sure. But they aren't a giant conglomerate, and I like that they're local and try to support various organizations' fundraising efforts.
I'm also waiting to hear back from the professor on the best way to do direct donations to us, if you're interested in that route.
