Bicycling, Naked and Otherwise

stormdogLisa and I got back a little while ago. We walked to the bike shop so I could look for a helmet. (I recently realized, after reading the excellent information about choosing and fitting a helmet over at the Bike Helmet Safety Institute, that my helmet I've had since 2000 doesn't really fit me.) She helped me work through the process of adjusting straps and fitting pads, and I think I have a helmet I'm happy with. It's very utilitarian looking, but I think I prefer a commuter look over a club rider/racer look anyway. And there's room for stickers!
On the way to Target, we passed the local military surplus store and saw it was going out of business. We ducked in and I bought a pair of gaiters and some thermal underwear at really great prices. I'd been looking at spats and gaiters online a lot lately, trying to decide how to keep my socks dry in the rain; now I'm all set! And this long underwear is really good stuff! Thick, warm synthetic that will keep me dry and cozy through the next winter.
And now, having eaten and prepared my bike, I'm going to pedal down to the Noble Square in preparation to ride through the streets of Chicago without a stitch on tonight. It seems that I'll be by myself again, but that's ok; I expect to have as fabulous a time this year as I did in 2013!
