I sat down to page through Orson Scott Card's Lost Boys (a thrift store find from yesterday while I was out looking at a car I was thinking about buying; more on that momentarily) today after Andrea left for work and the next thing I knew I was five chapters into it. It's not just that I like Orson Scott Card; it's the fact that this book was unfairly written to exactly to appeal to my wannabe old school geek pinings. The main character is a code-monkey in the '80s, writing games and apps for Ataris and C-64s. This was a carefully targeted attempt to overcome my defenses at their weakest point.

What else is going on? *sigh* Not a great deal right now. I managed to run my car out of gas yesterday on the way to school. Brilliant. I walked west to a hardware store to buy a gas can and then about half a mile back east for gas. Then I decided to take a Peggy Ann McKay day and go back home. The day was drizzly and I felt kinda lightheaded from the gas fumes and from not eating enough and I wanted to spend some time with Andrea before leaving for Wisconsin this weekend.

Oh yeah; I'm leaving for Wisconsin this weekend.

Then, on Monday, I'm starting my new job. It'll be full time for training for a couple weeks, but at least I'm not going to school for the first week of it. I will be so very glad when school is finally done with and all I have is a job to worry about. I want my evenings back!

In the meantime, I'm looking around for new transportation. The Olds is starting to hesitate up around 80 miles an hour (for those who don't know; people in Michigan drive fast. Really fast. 90-95 is not uncommon on 696) despite the fact that in general it's actually running really well right now, most of the time. In fact, it's really pretty drivable. This is good 'cause it gives me a little time to find a car I'm happy with. In fact, if my drive to work was still as short as it was while I was cleaning cell phones I wouldn't be very worried. It's just that with the new job I'm going to be driving faster and further, if hopefully not terribly longer, and I know that the miles are going to add up swiftly on a car that just rolled over to 380k last weekend. I want something really small that drinks considerably less gas than the 307ci V8 driven monster I'm roaming around in does. Unfortunately, the '94 Storm I test drove yesterday seemed like it may well have been in worse shape than my car. I thought The 6'8" Orthodox Jew with the belly length beard who owned it was pretty cool though. He didn't get in to take the test drive with me 'cause he's so tall the car hurts his back.

Andrea and I are already talking about how much we're going to miss each other while I'm visiting my family. This is probably sickly pathetic, but it's also true. I don't like being away from her and she certainly wishes she could go with and I feel bad about having to go alone. It will be really good to see my family though. I miss them. There is, I understand, a possibility of [livejournal.com profile] imandunewen staying with her as she goes to the faire this weekend so she won't be all by herself. That would make me happy.

Of course, that also necessitates cleanup, which I was busy doing yesterday and which will continue today once I get my lazy butt off of this chair. I started on the literally three foot tall pile of stuff covering our futon and cleaned several very scary things out of the refrigerator (I love having a garbage disposal; dump in sink, push down drain with spoon, done) and took clothes to the basement to hang up on the new sixteen foot long rack I screwed supports for into our neighbors wall installed yesterday. I bought 90 hangers, used 60, and have lots of clothes left. My raccoon has a lot of clothes.

But most of them are going off to ebay land. The idea is that as soon as I'm done with school, since I'll be working only part time at first, we'll collaborate on stuff to sell in the evenings and then when I'm home during the day I'll do the grunt work of taking pictures, hosting them, and writing copy.

Stuff happened at faire last weekend. I got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] chernabog69 and [livejournal.com profile] imandunewen who now has her own official corner of Faire Pair to sit in during the day. I bought a nice new leather pouch and much fun was had.

Ok, I should go clean up now.
