In Which I have an Underwear Epiphany

I'm writing about having bought a style of underwear that's new to me and the amazing realization that different types of undergarments are, in fact, functionally different! Which probably seems obvious to a lot of people, but I guess no one ever really explained that to me. Anyway, behind the cut, I'm talking about new underpants, specifically how they differ in terms of support and shaping. I also talk a bit about jeans and fit and cut and wash and things. Pass on by if that's not your thing. Otherwise, look
I don't know whether the underwear I've been wearing has stretched over time, or was too large for me to begin with. It's supposedly the same size as the two pairs I just bought, but difference in comfort is amazing. The shaping effect is a pleasant surprise too! The boxer briefs I've worn for a long time are not nearly so good at keeping all of my parts in place as I suspect these will be. Not having my penis occasionally migrating down one leg will be nice, and in fact, will make me more confident about wearing the snugger jeans I've come to be a fan of.
I bought these two pair of no-show briefs to wear with my pair of super low-rise jeans at Madtown Kinkfest. I'd like to be able to wear the jeans shirtless, or at least with a vest that shows some midriff. However, despite the new briefs being low-waisted, they're still too high for the jeans by a margin of a good two or three inches. These jeans have a low enough waist that the zipper on the fly is basically an afterthought. I've thought about wearing them commando, but without the aforementioned shaping effect of a good undergarment, that may not be the best idea. I suppose I'll probably need a dance belt or something like that.
That aside, I'm really amazed at the difference in the way a supportive pair of briefs feel compared to the boxer-briefs I've been wearing for years. It may simply be that no one ever explained to me that there is a functional difference between different types of underwear. I always figured it was simply a matter of style. Which is silly, because I know that for upper body support, there are sports bras and regular bras for different kinds of activity. Yet here I am, a serious cyclist, and I never even thought about the way that lower body undergarments offer support for particular activities, or even just in general.
I'm actually pretty new to thinking consciously about clothing in general. When I first met Danae, I knew nothing about pants. We were going to go clothes shopping and she asked me if I generally wore straight leg pants. "As opposed to...what, crooked leg?" I asked. I've come a long way since then. Far enough to know that I prefer low-rise jeans, preferably with a boot cut (I like flared ankles), though straight is ok. I know the kind of fit I want in the seat and crotch, and have actively sought out much snugger pants than I once did. I like darker, interesting dyes with crotch and knee whiskering, and I'm starting to think acid-washes, or dye patterns that have, for instance, intentionally darker or lighter calves and cuffs are pretty neat. There are particular looks and brands I scan for at the thrift stores. I'm starting to know about jeans.
But this underwear stuff is new to me, and it's kind of exciting.
Next, I need to learn about shirts and tops....
Anybody want to teach me?
Ok, I'm *really* going to start on my taxes now!
