I went on a ride hoping, among other things, to relax and feel good about myself. Instead, for the first time in 20 years and tens of thousands of miles, a bird flew directly into my spinning front wheel. I don't feel as awful about it as I did right after it happened, but I'm still pretty distressed and am having intrusive thoughts about it. I feel like a bad person for not going back to kill it if it was badly injured, but I don't know how to really tell, and I don't think I could have killed it anyway without any tools.

I made it to my little bridge and will rest and have a snack. I hope the ride back is better. [It was.]

Living rural as we do, we see a lot of road kill from wee birds to deer.

I feel sad about roadkill too, but less personally responsible at least.
