For my favorite tech story of the week, I will paraphrase an exchange of emails from a few days back.

------------------

User: Does {my company} support E-fax? Like where someone can fax something to a phone number and it goes to your email address? How would I set that up?

Me: Well, it's not something that we directly support or even maintain. E-fax is a separate, third-party group that will set that up for you. You would have to set that up through E-fax themselves, and in fact, other employees have done so. So the answer is yes in the sense that it will work, but it's not something we set up .

User: Does that mean it will work? How do I set it up?

Me, after banging my head on the desk a few times to cleanse the stupid: We do not set up E-fax accounts. You would need to create an account with E-fax yourself to set that up. You would need to go their website at www.efax.com.

User: Oh. Thanks.

*groans* And on a related topic, don't even get me started on things like people writing questions and punctuating them with periods or the hundreds of other abuses of the English language I've seen here. Especially from managers and even salespeople, who you would think would need to be able to write at at least a high school level (not that that really means much anymore) if they're interacting with clients. I'm supposed to be interacting with intelligent professionals who spend a lot of time involved in important communications with outside clients and other business units. Instead, I feel like I'm reading papers written by grade-schoolers. I'm by no means perfect, but it honestly boggles my mind to see the stupefyingly poor state of the written word in the professional environment these days. *sigh* I'm so glad it's Friday. Another weekend with the pretty coonie-grrl!!!

I intend to engage in large amounts of snuggling, learning Photoshop and Dreamweaver, and sleeping!
