stormdog: (sleep)

I spent two and a half hours cleaning the bathroom this evening. It took a bit longer than I expected; I'd planned to scrub the bathtub too, but I didn't quite get to it. I did get to everything else; cleaned and scrubbed the entire floor, washed the cabinets, and de-gunked the counter around the sink. Wow; too much orange-scented cleaner in an enclosed space is not good! I had to put a fan in the door to keep the air circulating.

Then I took everything out of the medicine cabinet so I could take out the glass shelves and wash them, then I organized everything in there. Prescription medicines here, over the counter stuff there, hygiene stuff up there, herbs on that shelf....

Not only does our bathroom have a medium sized medicine cabinet, we have another in-the-wall cabinet across from it, probably about three times it's size. I'm sure that there's more than enough shelf space in there to hold all of assorted bath powders and perfumes and lotions and sprays with room to spare, which means that I can finally get the back of the toilet cleared off. Andrea bought a pretty wooden box (probably a flower box in a past life) to put there to help organize things, but what I'd really like is to have everything organized and put away and there to be room for decorative things. I think I'd like a fabric drape for the toilet tank that I could put some candles on top of.

Ooh, speaking of candles, the four little votive boxes that I had in our bathroom in Michigan finally came out of hiding. They're frosted glass panels held in place by surrounding metal work in the shape of dragonflies. I have one at each corner of the counter, and they're so pretty! Andrea was concerned that they'd be knocked down, but I think as long as we keep the sink area free of detritus they should be fine.

See, my gift to myself for having gotten the bathroom cleaned was going to be a nice long candle-lit bath tomorrow night. I guess that might have to wait until Wednesday though; it'll probably take me another hour tomorrow to get the tub clean, and on top of dinner with [livejournal.com profile] farm_cat and [livejournal.com profile] barton_fender, I probably won't have the time for it. But that's ok; it's worth waiting for. It's been a long time since I've taken a bath.

There's something about having a pretty place to get ready for work in the morning that makes me feel just a little bit pretty too. I just have to keep it that way.

Speaking of keeping things up, I have made a spreadsheet for myself as a remembrance of daily and weekly tasks I need to do. I'm not very good at remembering to do things like scoop the cat box and take garbage out. Plus, I have tasks for myself to prepare lunch and a change of clothes before going to bed; that should help cut down on frantic mornings. I think having something that I can actually physically mark completion on will be a good motivator; just the way my brain works.

I should grab a shower and get to bed now. G'night!
