I was going to write about the weekend. I'll still do that. First though, I suppose I should mention that I lost my job today. This wasn't a complete surprise as I had been told around a month ago that, come the middle of August, Kenzerco probably wouldn't need me anymore. The fact that I didn't have any real notice in the form of somthing like specific advance notice is kind of a surprise though. I was concerned that this was perhaps a result of me having done something wrong or having not fulfilled my duties to expectation, but the Dwarf assures me that he is unaware of any problems that anyone had in regards to job performance. In fact, as I was saying good-bye to people, I asked one of the V.P.'s about a letter of recommendation, which he happily agreed to provide. I also intend to ask a couple of the other officers for the same when I get a chance, probably through e-mail. Anyway, I did have advance notice of a general sort, and I expect it was simply the fact that, with miniatures production on hiatus, they don't need me right now. They did say that they will probably continue to pay me on a day to day basis for assisting in miniature casting (the equipment is still all at my house) when they need me occasionally, but depending on whether I find temporary work I may not have time to do that, which won't really distress me. So on Thursday I'm probably off to the job center to look for work. Wish me luck. I'll write when I find work. *grin*

Now the weekend. What to say? I spent most of Saturday, after having finally gotten out of the house around noon, at the Bristol renfaire with [livejournal.com profile] wooisme, my brother, and his girlfriend Lara. We wandered the grounds, met a couple of my friends, even more of Andrea's friends, and one of our mutual friends, [livejournal.com profile] kittylad. We convinced Lara to try on a skirt and bodice (which she looked elfishly cute in) and I bought a nifty beaded leather thong sort of thing for my hair which would look really nice if I could figure out how to put it in. Guess I'll have time to practice for a few days, at least...

Jim and Lara wandered off with [livejournal.com profile] lookofevil early in the afternoon, and then my dear one and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] emrldgirrl with whom we spent some pleasant hours. We spent a while perusing the garb shops, where Devin helped lace Andrea up in a very nice black piratey bodice. That purchase made me feel a little better about having bought stuff for me. *grin*

The five of us ate at Little Europe after the close of the faire with Andrea and myself still in garb. Unsurprisingly, we weren't the only ones. I bravely tried new and strange dishes such as pierogies and latkes, as well of some of that stuff Andrea was having. We were having such a nice time eating that we all then retreated to my house where we, minus Jim and Lara, watched some of the video that my brother and friends were watching earlier. Yes, the porn star one. Eventually my parents arrived home from their game and Devin had to head home herself. The three of us need to spend more time together. It was really a nice night.

On Sunday my raccoon and I spent a lazy day exploring a wonderful Italian grocery store and a couple of flea markets. We got home late in the evening and had a rambling conversation with my parents. I'm glad of Andrea and my parents having chances to get to know each other better. As the evening wore on into night we had some more time to ourselves, which is always a good thing. We spent lots of time talking, looking at some, well, interesting furry art *grin*, and finally went to bed where we eventually got to sleep.

Finally, on Monday morning, Andrea left for home and I returned to real life. I guess that's all there is to say about that. I miss her, and I miss Devin and my other friends too. I need more friends who live less than an hour's drive away...

No mail is going to get through to any stormdog.fdns.net address until further notice. I decided to take some of my extra time resulting from my recent loss of employment and use it to install a hard drive I inherited from my dad's system in my server. Somehow, as I was putting the new drive in, the boot sector on the old one ate itself. I also can't find the Win2K cd to reinstall it. All my data is still there, or so it appears poking around in DOS, it just won't boot. *sigh* Does anyone know how to rebuild a Win2K boot sector before I convert the old master to a slave, reinstall windows on the new master, and recopy all my data?

Tomorrow I'm helping a friend move, then, assuming I return home in time (probably about a 50/50 chance) I'm going to start applying with temp agencies. I was actually feeling pretty good earlier today. If it hadn't been such a nice environment I would have found a different job long ago and I'm happy to be done with it in a way. Still, with the passage of time, I've started feeling a little bit lost. The offers of job/resumè help from both [livejournal.com profile] wooisme and her friend Lisa help though. I almost found myself in tears when I was talking to Andrea on the phone and she said that, though she can't be there to hug me, she can still tell me that everything will be ok...
