Our security officer used half of my desk space yesterday while he was in the office for a little while. While he was here, he said that I'm the fastest typist he's ever seen and asked if I knew my speed.

It had been a long time since I'd taken a test (I think it was while I was looking for temp work in Michigan) and it was about 40 WPM with one or two errors back then. But I was curious, so I Googled up an online typing speed test and just tried it out.

I guess I've improved; I did 73WPM with 100% accuracy. Obivously I'd have to try a few times on different blocks of test to get a more accurate sense of things, but that's fairly quick, isn't it? I get frustrated trying to use Dragon Naturally Speaking even though it would probably save me some wrist pain; most times I can type faster and more accurately than it can listen to me talk. I wonder if I could make money doing some kind of home transcription work on the side.

And now I'm curious again as to how I compare with other people. Do you know what your typing speed is? If not, do you want to go take a one minute test and find out and post your results here? That could be kind of interesting. The test I used is over here; I used the 'Zebra' text.

I get along with my team lead pretty well. But he, like most of my company, does not have the greatest grasp of language. *sighs* I see where we both misunderstood each other, but it all started with his first email where he expressed the question he was being asked by our new tech without being clear about where it was from. I thought it was a question that he (team lead) was asking of the new tech. From there, he probably thought I was being sarcastic in my response.

What Stormdog did is going to do on his winter vacation:

I'm going to see an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Photography called One Wall Away; Chicago's Hidden Places. I heard about it on NPR and it's exactly my thing!

-Oops; I guess that's going to be either the 20th or the 21st; they're closed for a while after that! I suppose it could be the preceeding Saturday or Sunday too. I want to bring my camera with and take some train and city pictures. I'm going to poke around to see what else there is to see and do in the area while I'm down there too.

I'm going to leave Kenosha really early in the morning, hopefully at a time when there's snow on the ground, to get to Gary, Indiana by dawn so I can get pictures of the abandoned church in that beautiful golden sun-barely-over-the-horizon light but with an austere winter atmosphere.

I'm thinking about leaving similarly early to get to Bong Recreational Area by dawn to take pictures there. I'm not sure on that one because I don't know the park well enough to position myself in a good place in the dark. Hmm. Same goes for Petrifying Springs; I'm not really there very much, unfortunately.

If anyone would like to do any of those things with me, company would be lovely! They are all free. I have every day from the 20th of December through the end of the year off, except for the 26th. I'd generally prefer doing these things on weekdays, but let me know when would work for you.

I'm going to do more work on the library. I just bought a nice, all cedar plank bookshelf from Goodwill for $15 that's just waiting to be filled.

I'm going to clean the computer room, living room, and bedroom.

I'm going to patch a few holes in the plaster walls, and a few cracks and holes in some old wooden door frames with all the stuff I bought at Lowe's a few weeks ago and haven't made it 'round to using yet. I'm also going to finish putting plastic over the windows if I haven't done it by then.

I'm sure there's more stuff that I'll think of shortly.

I can has vacation now? *Tries to look like an loldog*

I dropped off some computers at my dad's school that are going to some of his students who can't afford them. I have another monitor to give him, but I haven't been able to get a hold of him tonight.

Tomorrow, Andrea and I are going out to see Enchanted. It sounds very smooshy and romantic. I'm looking forward to it.

On Saturday, we may be going to meet up with people for Golden Compass. I'm not quite sure what's going on there yet. Hopefully that will finalize itself tomorrow.

And I guess that's it for now.
