Feb. 3rd, 2009 02:33 pmThings have happened lately. I've gone to work and stuff. It's mostly been good.
Lunch was really good!
moiracoon made some from-scratch salsa verde from tomatillos that she roasted herself. I had that with some beans and rice in tortillas. That was great! Probably not as much protein as I need though, so second lunch was cheese and salami. Much as I'm not really that big on meat, my brain functions best with a large percentage of animal parts and animal secretions as fuel.
I spent a portion of this weekend working on the house. The bathroom still looks great, and I'm only spending a couple minutes a day to keep up with it. I think now that it's been mostly clean for a while, I'm going to dive deeper into scrubbing floors, bathtub, and tile, and washing walls, this weekend.
The bedroom is looking a lot better since I caught up on laundry (mostly), and the downstairs is pretty nice too. I'm going to see if I can get in the habit of spending ten or fifteen minutes a day just keeping up with stuff. I need to do the catboxes soon too.
Moira and I had a really fun time at an LJ-less friends' apartment for a belated Chinese New Year party. She made stamed pork buns, dumplings, sesame balls, and other Chinese food. It was really good! And, just as good for me, I got to play Rock Band with she and other folks for a good while. I'm hoping for the chance to do more of that with them. *bounces*
On the topic of Rock Band, I grabbed a piece of software called Digiband that is basically a Rock Band-like game for the PC. I brought it over to my parents house on my laptop and was able to get both my set of Rock Band drums and theirs hooked up to the computer and working. (Oddly enough, the Playstation kit was plug and play and the Microsoft kit needed a driver...)
Since there are six tracks for notes on the drum part of Digiband, I set up two pads on one set of drums as the cymbals and three pads on the other set of drums as the toms, and had both kick pedals working for the kick drum so I could get some double-bass action going!
I have to say though, it was kind of anticlimactic once it was all set up. It just didn't seem like as much fun as I thought it would be. Maybe it's something that I need to invest some practice in before it's enjoyable. It was really weird to see the kick drum notes as their own track instead of a bar going across all of them, and my brain didn't parse it well. Maybe building up with some easy songs would help, but I didn't find too many easy songs. Or maybe if I had a drum simulator that I could play around with free-form like it would be fun.
I think I'll wait to pursue that set up any further until I have room in the basement for something semi-permanent like I've wanted for a while. Until then, Rock Band on the PS2 with just one set of drums is tons of fun already.
Anyway, to stop blathering about something most of you don't care about (as if the rest of this entry is anything other...), I got in touch with UW-Parkside about my transcript. Seems I probably won't be able to do online classes 'till at least the second half of the year. I owe $1300 in unpaid fees from 2002. Oops. I guess I'll have to work at paying that down as the first step in trying to get a degree. It's frustrating, but at least I know where to start.
I have some laptops that I need to get out of my house; hopefully that will help make a dent. Speaking of which, I will probably have two or three more laptops that I'm interested in selling, and I'd much rather sell them locally than have to deal with Ebay/Paypal hassle. I'll write a post with more specific information when I have it, but if you're interested, do let me know, won't you?
