Jan. 30th, 2010 09:22 pmJuan replaced the tie-rod end on my car today. In return, he charged me...hard drive magnets. He is fantastic. He's planning to use the magnets as part of a pipe-holding apparatus to hold piping he's welding. We drove the Neon to a little farm in the area whose owner he works for a little bit. The owner is into old trucks, so I got to walk through a barn full of five or six forties and fifties International and Ford pickups. Of course, of course, I decided I didn't need to bring my camera with me. When will I learn to just bring the thing everywhere?
The tie rod end, as he demonstrated, was totally shot. The steering is much less sloppy now, though I'm going to have to go out tomorrow and get a couple used tires (both front ones have been worn smooth in bands due to the steering, and the belt on one is starting to separate; not so good), and then find somewhere to get the front end aligned. But it's better. And I can afford that.
I brought a 15 inch flatscreen over to to my dad today to replace his 21 inch CRT. I hung out there for a bit with folks who were gathered for tabletop gaming. My godfather, who's been down in Wisconsin for quite a while with them, gave me the whole run of the original The Prisoner. I've wanted to see that for years!
I have to go back tomorrow to get the last few episodes that didn't fit on the thumb drive, as well as see No-LJ-James and Lara, who are back in town for a little while. James was first in class in one of the things he's taking and will be going to an honors ceremony. I'm not surprised, but I'm pleased for him!
I think I'm going to pass on taking the great big printer with me. I do very little large format printing, and I think I'd rather just have it done for me when I do art shows and what not. Would anyone like an Epson Stylus Photo 2200? It works, and prints up to 13 inches wide. I think it needs some ink. (On the other hand, I'm just undecided. I can't decide about this thing. But I can tell it needs some ink. I just tried to clean the heads, but it won't because it's out of magenta or something. Maybe I'll get some and play with it some more.
The computer room is pretty well packed up except for stuff I still need to sell or give away. I may get the keyboard back out again now that it won't be in the way for packing. I miss making music. Or, at least, attempting to.

The below picture is from from Monday morning of my first day exploring Washington proper. I got in late on Sunday evening and took a cab from the Vienna Metro station over to my hosts' place to join a dinner party already in progress. It was so great to meet
ankhorite and
savant_da_rat in person. They are wonderful folks who I miss. After dinner, they got me settled into a sofa bed, and the next morning, Savant got me out to the station again to catch the Metro into DC.
They recommended I start at Federal Triangle and walk around from there, so I did. This is Federal Triangle station under downtown Washington.
I love this picture. I feel like this is a good example of me really thinking more about composition before pushing the pretty little button. What do you think?
