stormdog: (Tawas dog)
I just passed that copy of Lie, Cheat, and Steal I was giving away on to [livejournal.com profile] wendyzski, who kindly met me in the lobby of my building. In return she gave me a loaf of bread that looks and smells soooooo good! Thank you wendyzsk!

Yesterday I got the rest of the computer books off to Goodwill, save the ones sitting in a pile for Posicat, along with four sticks of 1GB ECC Registered DDR2. One of these days I'll manage to see him in person and deliver them.

With the aid of some large garbage bags I got at Big!Lots, I started in on my computer nook in the basement. I threw out a ton of old wall warts that I have no need for, a box of things like AT replacement panels from some old case I bought during the transition from AT to ATX, and various cables. I collected about thirty hard drives that I'm going to start hauling with me to work five or six at a time to add to a box I just created marked "To destroy". I took one apart yesterday and realized about halfway through that the platters, magnets, and ten cents worth of aluminum scrap is *not* worth my time at fifteen or twenty minutes per drive. I've dismantled enough of these things, thank you.

I found a couple of keyboards to add to the stack of games to donate to Goodwill, including one that is new in box that probably has the nicest action of any non-high end keyboard I've used. I think that's why I kept it. But I've got enough Model M's that I don't need it. I kept silly things I'd forgotten I had like my telephone recording tap I got at Radio Shack ten plus years ago. I brought a USB hub and some speakers over to my parents for them to use. There's not too much left down there. Next I'll start bringing stuff in from the garage to arrange on the shelves and then go through the same way.

I didn't catch up on money. But I will do that this week, then get my car aligned. Meanwhile, Juan is going to look at Moira's car this coming weekend. It may just be brakes, but the KIA requires disassembling all sorts of stuff to change brakes, and I'm not up to it.

I got to meet No-LJ-James and Lara over at my parents' last night, which was really nice! I really miss both of them. Lara went back out to see other folks, but James, [livejournal.com profile] akreaveter, Alex (Evil Bob's son who I've known forever) and Greg, another friend of Ak's, all played most of a game of Iron Dragon, which was fantastic! It's so rare I get to play with more than two or three people. I wish I could find more locals who want to play board games.

The Marina City Condos

Marina City in Downtown Chicago
Since I don't have my DC pictures with me here at work, here's one from Chicago.

Looking up from the base of one of the towers of Marina City, a mixed-use facility completed in the early 1960s. This is a residential complex and includes condominiums, stores, parking, restaurants, and many amenities like a swimming pool and bowling alley.

This is, supposedly, an illegal picture.

The Marina Towers Condo Association has stated that they have a 'common law copyright' on this building's image and that it cannot be used without their permission. You can find several discussions on the absurdity of this claim by Googling the appropriate terms (Marina City copyright photography). Be aware of how civil rights of photographers, among many others, are being eroded. Don't let it happen to you.
