Nov. 16th, 2011 09:08 pmI wish I had time to sit and write about Windycon, and the other stuff going on in my life. But school is keeping me so very busy.
I have two papers of four pretty much done; I did a little bit more work on them tonight and I feel like they're decent. Those are the two due this month. I have about four weeks to get the other two done. I'm especially intimidated by the writing I need to do for politics 101, which will be six to ten pages on one of three essay prompts. I'm pretty sure I know which one I'm going to use, and I have a few books handy to start reading.
But for tonight, I'm going to concentrate, at least at first, on studying for my geography test on Friday. That and doing some laundry. I'd really like to try to get to bed by 10; I've been getting low amounts of sleep lately and I can really feel it, especially in the mornings.
I renewed my Flickr account today, which makes me think of
rileybear67, since she was the one who first bought me a paid account there. I may have sold another photo to someone who found my stuff going through Flickr earlier this week; I'm waiting to hear back on terms and things. But my sale to Conde Nast a little while back at least covers the renewal, plus a bit more to put toward a replacement 50mm lens.
Windycon was wonderful. The weekend was a little different from original plans. My beloved Danaeris was too busy with her grad school apps to want to stay at the hotel. Instead, I stayed with her in Aurora for the weekend, driving to the convention during the day and returning at night. I was by myself on Friday, and had the pleasure of her company on Saturday. We both spent Sunday working on our respective school things, after getting up late.
We needed to catch up on sleep; we were up past two in the morning on Saturday night. I spent a few hours wandering about parties and hanging out with
lisagems in the evening. Then after midnight, Danae and I went to the Ohana House room party where we stayed until the wee hours. I got to talk more with a friend of Danae's who I like a lot. Sadly, he lives in Canada and will not be a regular social partner, but we may see him at future conventions.
I had a great time at the chocolate party, sampling all manner of delectable goodies. I chatted with Pan and Laptop there for a while too, as well as other folks. I saw Rileybear and caught up with her at one point. I saw
moiracoon and her partner
mocha_mephooki, as well as other folks who I'm not sure I have an LJ name for, but who I know.
On Saturday evening, Danae and I had dinner with Vlad, Kyttyn, and a new-to-me-person, Trevor, who was also down from Canada. I learned that I really love the Wilbur's Revenge sauce; it's hotter than most Thai food I can get around here. Yum! It was nice being social with people too. I'm hoping we can find time to follow up on being social with Vlad and Kyttyn at some time other than during a convention.
There's more stuff going on, but it's hard to capture it all here these days. My relationships are going very well and making me very happy. Danae told me, when I commented that I have my moments, that some of her best moments are with me. It made me tear up. I'm really in love with her.
My family took me out for a birthday dinner yesterday at Red Robin. It was pretty good food, and they have a great gluten free menu and are very accomodating to people with food allergies, like my dad who has Celiac Disease. Their bottomless root beer floats are dangerous. Even No-LJ-James was there, which made me really happy since he's so busy with law school, and I with my schoolwork, that we barely see each other. There are too many people that I miss.
Speaking of, I miss Lisa, and am really looking forward to seeing her this coming weekend. I will be missing MFF for the second year in a row, after being at every one since 2003 or so, and that makes me sad. My first couch-surfing host from Michigan will be there along bunches of other people I know, so I'm kind of sad about not being there. But as well as saving money on a hotel room, I really feel like spending a more relaxed weekend with Lisa will be better than MFF.
The wall in my room is half-way decent. By which I mean that half the wall has drywall on it. It's the inside, so I'm dealing with it. Supposedly the rest of it, plus taping and mudding, will be done soon, but I have no idea when. I'd really like to get to a point where I can fully decorate and make more room, but I don't have time to devote to that right now anyway. Though I really do have to buy some stain and stain the door I bought so I can get it hung to replace the curtain I have across the doorway right now. I'd really like a bit more privacy for when I have my sweeties over to visit.
I think I'll stop there for now and get back to studying. I miss LJ, and connecting with people here in more depth than Facebook and LJ. It's just hard to find time to write here these days. I'm grateful for you folks who are still out there. I read what you write all the time!
