stormdog: (Tawas dog)
For the last couple days, I've been in charge of the archives by myself, with the two actual staff members at events or off work. I even had a key to let myself in. As one of the library staff commented, they must trust me down there! Which is a nice feeling.

After biking home, I quickly got changed and walked over to Twisted Cuisine to meet both my mother and Danae and her parents. We were all seeing my dad's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat that night, and though my dad was busy at the high school, the rest of us decided to get dinner prior to the show. I'd never been to the restaurant, even though it's only two blocks from home and has lots of really tasty-looking food. I really enjoyed my seafood soup and fish, and Danae's parents surprised us by treating us to dinner. They're great people.

The show was great. The summer shows include a wide range of ages from all over the school district, unlike the shows during the school year that include only high school students and require auditions. Regardless, and while I'm no theatre critic, I was impressed by the production. There were a few technical issues, and of course not everyone on stage was perfect. But since Kenosha's high school theatre program has, for the last ten years or so, been one of the eight-to-ten programs selected from among hundreds of competing schools to have a spot in the national high school theatre festival, they were pretty good!

We finished the night with conversation about theatre and stories at a local 24-hour diner called Marina Gardens. I wish Evanston folks could have stayed longer, but they had a longish drive back and it was getting late. It makes me happy to spend time with Danae's parents; I hope I can see them in person again soon.

This morning, keeping mostly to my schedule, I got up about 7:30 and packed up my photo gear. I biked over to the Kenosha Theatre, a 1927-built movie palace two miles from home, to meet one of the folks in the group that's working to raise awareness and acquire funds for renovation. I'd made plans with him to do some more interior photography, which I did for a few hours before getting hungry and heading home. I concentrated this time on the details of the architectural plaster. Here are some photos, both from this visit, and from a session almost two years ago (has it been that long?!) in September of 2012.
