(no subject)

I was still feeling a bit off when I woke up at 7 o' clock this morning. I decided that sleeping in might be a good idea and went back to bed. An hour and a half later, after sleeping through all my alarms and things, I decided staying home might be a good idea too. I contacted work and let them know.

I do think the extra sleep helped though.

We have quite a thunderstorm coming through right now, so that's nice. I'm going to enjoy it as I drive my mother to work so I can have the car for the day. Then I'm going to come back home and work on a draft of a personal statement for the first grad school deadlines on my list (CUNY and UW-Madison both have December 15th deadlines, and a few others schools I'm not as excited about are in that time frame).

I should do some laundry and pick out clothes for faire tomorrow too. Will I see anybody else there?

Naked Lunch

I bought a bag full of books at a local library book sale, including some nifty history stuff and a passel of Heinlein paperbacks. This has also motivated me to do a little cleaning of my shelves and boxing of books.

One thing going into a box is a copy of William Burroughs' "Naked Lunch". I saw it at a used book store and all I knew about it was that it was the subject of major censorship debate and had deep social meaning.

It's been a long time since I tried to read it. Maybe I'll try it again sometime; I think I'd have a much better shot at it now. But I don't see myself likely to try in the near future. It's not exactly leisure reading. And if I did have time for leisure reading, there'd be a bunch of stuff in front of it in line.
