I'm tired after the last two days at work.

The company next door to Kenzer is going out of business and moving out. We're taking the opportunity to pick up bunches of metal shelves from them for our own use. I've been moving, dismantling, and reassembling them today and yesterday which, while actually kind of a welcome change from my accustomed devices, has left me a bit sore. Plus I managed to cut my hand open on a screwdriver. Fun.

The story of the company next door is something of a sad one. The owner, who is the person who's been around and talking to us, has recently been widowed. Seems his wife became ill toward the beginning of the year and he ended up taking a lot of time taking care of her and being with her. He left most of the running of the business to one of his employees who promptly started his own competing company on the side and stole his customers. Nice guy. So with his business losing money and his wife ( who was one of his most important workers as well) gone, he's basically liquidating the business and trying to move on. He seems like a really good guy, and I really felt for him. I just wanted to give him a big hug... *sigh*

Anyway, apart from the shelves and filing cabinets and microwave and copier that Kenzer acquried from him, I may have a few things of my own. I snagged what I call the 'super strip', a 6 foot long power strip with 19 outlets that was nailed to a table there. I now have it behind my desk where it is taking the place of 3 six-strips that I had plugged into the wall and one another in what I'm sure was an electrician's nightmare. I am also excited about the possibility of taking some computer equipment off his hands, particularly a couple of Pentium II systems and monitors. He doesn't want to take the trouble of e-baying them or otherwise finding buyers, and I offered him $25 for them, telling him that, though I know he could probably get more than that if he really hunted for the right market, it's all I have at the moment. He seemed interested. However, I talked to my mother about the situation, and since she'll probably end up using one of the P II's, she was willing to throw in another $25 so that I can give him $50 instead. Though I'd probably be willing to give him more if I had it, I don't feel quite so bad about that sum.

What else of interest... My dad wants the nice big drafting table they have there, so I'm going to see if it fits into the trunk of the Olds tomorrow. It's a really nice table, better than the ones we learned on at UW-Parkside, and it would be a really nice thing for him to have in his classroom once he starts teaching. What a neat thing to be able to have high-school students actually drafting out stage plans... *smile*

And tonight, I worked on my youngest brothers computer, installing a bunch of new hardware that a school friend gave him. Woof. It's amazing how things tend to get so busy all at once... I'm still working on that computer, after installing the super strip earlier today. I'm trying to track down a CD-ROM drive issue... This, after a long while of not having much time to work on computer stuff, reminds me of how much I really enjoy doing it, and how satisfying I find it. There's just something about putting computers together, scavenging parts, tracking down drivers, laying a naked motherboard and components out on a towel and bench-testing it with an old power supply I scavenged... I love it.

But I suppose I should really get to bed. My shining star is going to be here tomorrow, and I need to be awake to greet her with the love she deserves.
