Jun. 25th, 2009 02:47 pmPoor Kuma is so wiped out from the heat that he let me clip his toenails earlier today! (Taking advantage of my dog being worn out; I'm sneaky that way!)

I've been remiss in not brushing him as much as I should. But with the heat wave of these last few days, I figured now is an even better time to get started. I need to get an undercoat rake for him to get everything; Akitas have a thick undercoat and, twice a year, lose it all at once. ('Blowing their coat', it's called.)
But I have enough fur brushed out of him to make a medium-sized poodle. Hopefully he's feeling cooler. He's looking better too; much less patchy.
Currently he's chilling on the stair landing with a box fan pointed down at him. When I woke up this morning, he was sitting in front of the fan on the floor. Even better, between his forepaws, one of our cats, Sabrina, was all snuggled up right there in front of him. It was about the cutest thing I've ever seen them do. I wish I could have managed a picture, but she jumped up and left when I got up. Didn't want to be caught fraternizing with the enemy,
moiracoon suggested. Amusingly enough, one of the times I left the computer room for a bit, she was there again, and left just as quickly.

Oh wow; check out the picture here of a Newfoundland lying next to his brushed out undercoat fur! That's kind of what it looked like when I was done with Kuma, though he's still got a little more to go.
