The Chester Highway Bridge spans the Mississippi River at Chester, Illinois to connect the town to Missouri across the water.

The current span, according to Wikipedia, was built on existing concrete piers after a tornado destroyed the prior span in the 1940s.

I spent a while walking around the area and photographing the bridge before driving over to continue on my way toward Kaskaskia.

If I lived nearby, I'd be out here frequently at sunset, waiting for some amazing light to photograph this enormous piece of graceful steel and concrete.
