Bike Trouble
Aug. 5th, 2014 10:01 amI'd made it several blocks from home this morning when I realized I'd forgotten to attach my mirror to my glasses. When I looped back and picked it up, I thought about grabbing a set of hex drivers in case I felt a necessity for adjustments, but decided not to take the time. So of course, halfway to school, I realized that the seat post had slipped downward a small but noticeable distance. I stopped and wiggled it back and forth to pull it back up, but doing so ended up loosening the clamp on the saddle itself which started tilting away from vertical, riding up in the front in a rather uncomfortable way.
So I spent the second half of the commute stopping every so often to mutter profanity while reorienting the saddle to my preferred angle, which seemed to just keep making the clamp looser so it would tilt even more quickly next time. For a few spans, I pedaled standing to avoid the issue. I was only a few minutes late getting to the archives, so it could have been worse.
Speaking of travel time, with the traditional saddle back on my bike, my commute time dropped noticably, and it's a much more enjoyable ride. I think, I hope, I just need a wider, traditional saddle. I'm going to look for one this weekend.
There's a hardware store near the campus that I'm going to drop into on my way home. I want a set of hex drivers to keep on the bike all the time.
