Tomorrow is my first day of classes of my last year of undergrad. That's pretty exciting. I have just one, once-per-week, 2.5 hour class on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tomorrow it will be Intro to GIS Analysis, and on Mondays it's Urban Geography. I'm looking forward to both of those a lot. Urban geography is intimately connected to what I see myself doing in grad school in terms of theory and practice, and working with GIS will be a very important skill set for the kind of research I want to do.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have two classes that I'm taking because I need them for graduation. One is a science gen ed that I'm taking to replace a poor grade from ten years ago (Science and Pseudoscience), and the other is a research report writing class that's required for my major. I feel fairly ambivalent about those, but at least they shouldn't be a ton of work. I may get more ambitious again for my Spring semester and take five classes weighted toward upper level anthropology, history, or geography since I'll be done with grad school apps by then. But for now, I'm happy to have some extra time to work on the Pike Creek oral history project, study for the GREs, and all that fun stuff. Since my new schedule at the archives is M-W-F, once I'm done with class at 12:22 on Tuesday and Thursday, I'm done for the day!

I do have one other responsibility this semester. My advisor doesn't get done teaching early enough on Wednesdays to pick her pup up from doggy day care, so she's paying me to get him and bring him back to her place. I get to play with her friendly dog for a little bit once a week and get paid for it. Such a hardship!

My adviser and I are hoping to publish our work on the creek at some point; it would be awesome to have an author credit under my belt for applications, but I'm not sure if it will be done in that time frame. She's going to have a couple other undergrads who need field work credit work with us on interviewing too.

My brother T and I are planning to bike to school together tomorrow. He hasn't done a lot of riding over the summer, so we're planning to leave early to make sure we get there on time and I don't leave him behind. I think most of the time we'll end up riding separately (assuming he does a lot of riding to school, as he's planning to) until his pace gets closer to mine, but it'll be nice to ride together the first time.

I put the new saddle on my old bike. I've missed riding the Giant for the past month or so as all my commuting miles have been on the newer Novara. The Novara was originally going to be primarily a bad weather bike, but since I only have one saddle that seems to work for me, and it's kind of a pain to switch it between bikes, it's stayed on the Novara out of momentum. I want to get more miles on the Giant while it's still warm out! Then, it's going into the basement for a slow, methodical overhaul over the course of the winter.

Super-sleepy dog is going to bed now. I'll be up bright and early for tomorrow....
