I have returned from the mysterious land known as Southfield!
The skills assessment was pretty easy. Questions were on phone call technique (I managed to figure out what the proper answers were) and some light technical stuff that I had no problems with.
After I finished with that, there was a short interview which, despite my having not expected that 'till tomorrow, I did fairly well on. I really surprised myself with the ease with which I produced appropriate BS in response to questions like "What do you feel are the most important aspects of customer service?" and "what five words would you pick to describe yourself?" I'm particularly proud of my response to the first. 'Blah blah be professional blah blah be understanding of theluser blah blah make the user glad that they called us and talked to me.' The guy I talked to seemed to be very happy with my answers. I'm just worried that they're going to be the really tough ones tomorrow and Friday; all that 'what is your greatest weakness' junk. *shudder*
He was, in fact, so happy with my answers that I now have not only my previously scheduled interview in Southfield tomorrow at 1:30, but another interview in Dearborn on Friday at 2:00. This is in addition to the 70-210 exam that I've got scheduled for 10:30 tomorrow. Maybe my sweetie will help me with practice interview questions tonight. Despite my apparent ability to make stuff up under pressure, I'm more than a little nervous about these things.
I managed to have lunch with
wooisme today. Since I was going through the area anyway, we arranged to get together at Subway. She's stuck in the fourth circle of hell in her place of employment until 9:00 tonight for an open house, so I thought a little friendly company might be nice. She is starting to get worried about finding anything else as far as employment. So was I though. It just takes time. Given enough time something will come up. It's fact.
If I get hired, my hours are going to be 7:00 A.M. through 11:00 A.M. Yes, this will make for a really weird schedule again while I'm going to school (two long breaks, neither of them quite long enough for a real 7 hour's sleep), but, looking ahead, I only have school for 4 more weeks. (I can hardly believe I'm almost done with it. I clearly remember going to New Horizons for the first time and how totally cool I thought it was that I might be going to school there. I definitely remember the craziness of trying to fit a full time 7:00 to 3:30 job in with going to school 'till 10:30 at night. I was insane to think I could keep that up for a prolonged period. God/dess, my life has undergone such unbelievable change...) Despite this being only part time, I am very optimistic. My hourly wage will be the highest I've ever been paid, the hours will give me time to study and take exams while I finish up school, and I'll be working for an IT staffing service with not only full national coverage (I could relocate to, say, the Chicago area at some point), but with international coverage. It's called Techteam. The interviewer told me that they have a good number of entry level workers who've gotten their start doing support and help desk and who've gone on to administrative positions. If anyone else is looking for IT employment (
crazycatladymel; maybe John would be interested in checking with them?), I recommend checking them out.
Yup; busy busy busy. Thanks for sticking with me through all of this my friends.
