This is the development we live in. It's called Molenwijk, Mill District, and the buildings are laid out to call to mind classic four-sailed windmills. The buildings are individually named things like tower mill (torenmolen) and bergmolen (mountain mill). We live in Petmolen, which I'm not sure I'm getting the correct translatin for. (Pet mill?) They are ten floor residential highrises with car parks in the middle, and we are on the third floor. Access to the front door is via a shared exterior walkway that runs the length of the building, and we have a back balcony exclusive to our unit.

This is quite atypical urban planning for Amsterdam, but it was built in the 1960s and is much (much!) newer than the old city south of the IJ. If I figured out the translated history correctly, the land we are on was water until the 1870s when it was drained and became a polder. Officially we are in Amsterdam, but it is Amsterdam Noord, across the IJ from the center of old Amsterdam.

The squarish building in the southeast is a shopping center with a grocery store (Albert Heijn), doctors offices, a post office, and other handy things. Even high-rise residential is fairly walkable here! Also, the entire interior of the Molenwijk area, other than the stub roads that to to the car parks, is restricted to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. There are frequently people with dogs visible outside our windows. This being the Netherlands, they are usually off leash. This morning, there were two cute chubby birds sitting in the tree just past our balcony. I really like the place so far.

There's a lot of cleaning left to do at the old place. I'm going to end up taking a few trips to take care of everything there, and will likely buy a bike trailer to take any remaining bits and bobs over here and because I want one anyway for grocery shopping.

Most of my stuff for day-to-day living is in Elgin at Erik's place now. I made it over there with things on Saturday after work, but didn't see Erik until late Sunday night when he got back from Midwest Furfest. And he just went straight to bed, so I still didn't see much of him!

I was at the condo instead of at Erik's place last night because someone came to buy the vanity Danae is selling. She did, in fact, buy it. I would have been content even if she'd just shown up. I would have been very grumpy if she didn't and I'd spent my whole evening here for no good reason.

While there, I spent a few hours working on flights to Amsterdam. It's really hard to figure out which flights allow pets and which don't. But after booking and then cancelling (I made sure there was a several hour window for a full refund if I needed one) I've found that the really cheap option will not allow Seregil to come with. I'll look for other options today. Today I'm tried and will sleep soon.

It was so odd being home and being the only living being in the place. I constantly expected to see Seregil when I went through a door or turned a corner. Erik sent me pictures of him and it was such a relief to see him curled up (on clean laundry of course!) and looking happy that I only then realized how worried I was about him. It'll be good to see him (and Erik!) again today!

I haven't been on social media much lately. I've been obsessing with Minecraft (I built a house!) and otherwise not doing much other than prepping the condo for various showings. I've been feeling a lack of...energy?...and getting lost in building virtual environments is soothing.

Minecraft was down las night so I tried out Occupy White Walls. I couldn't get OWW to run though, so I figured I'd read/play more of National Park Girls, but there was a patch that rendered old saves unusable. I found a skip-forward mode and got to where I'd left off, but it turned out that was only five or ten minutes from the end of the first chapter. But the second chapter had been released and was on sale for the launch, so I got it for $4. But I didn't feel like starting on that and it was late so I went to bed.

I'm really looking forward to leaving the political situation of this country behind for a while. I feel saturated. It's harder and harder to care deeply about things in any kind of middle level between large and abstract and emotional (Trump, McConnell and all are worthless human beings who I'd like to see die in a fire) and small and concrete (that meme is *WRONG* because it doesn't include nuance I feel is critical to the concept). I can feel both of those things, but the mid-level connections between them just make me want to withdraw because I can't do anything about them.

I almost forgot. I'm interested in selling my car. It's a Chevy Lumina. I think it's a 1999. It has about 160 thousand miles on it. It has numerous annoying issues, but the drivetrain is sound. I'm hoping to get about $500. If you or anyone you know are interested, let me know?

The turn signal indicator is flaky; you have to pull back on the stick to make the turn signals work correctly. Since the brake lights are wired through that switch, you also have to pull back on the turn signal indicator to make the brake lights work correctly. I've been pulled over for this once.

The gas tank and pump were recently replaced. However, the filler neck is rusted, and if you fill the tank all the way full, gas splashes out on the ground. (My fix; don't fill it all the way full.)

I got a low-voltage warning a while ago, but I haven't seen it come on in a long time. I don't know what caused the blip. I put new tires on it last Summer. It gets about 22 miles per gallon. I've been pretty good about oil changes, but it burns a little bit of oil. It has the big engine; 3.8 litre V6 I think.
