Across the street, there's a kid who reminds me of me for a couple of vaguely defined reasons who'd been making attempts at climbing a tree. After a couple of attempts to get onto a lower branch, he got what looks like a big white bucket from somewhere and used it to get some height. It looks like he and another kid are about fifteen or twenty feet up now. This makes me happy.

Bean Buns!

I just learned that a large Asian food store is approximately three-quarters of a mile from me. Probably less than a fifteen minute walk. And they have a bakery onsite. I might be able to get fresh red bean paste buns; that would be happiness!

I was awoken last night by a couple having a loud fight somewhere outside my window. Probably the next building over. For the ten minutes or so until it ended, I wasn't sure whether I should call the police. If no violence was going happen, I'd rather not make potentially huge trouble for them, especially since they're Black and I worry they'd be treated unfairly by officers.

Then, it happened twice more, with breaks between that lasted almost long enough for me to get to sleep. It sounded pretty ugly sometimes, but so did a lot of fights my ex and I had in the last year or so we were living together. It did finally stop, somewhere around 1:45, so I got to sleep again. I'm still up almost two hours later than I wanted to be, though I have just needed some sleep too.

How do you decide when something like that happening in your vicinity merits a call to the police?

It's a little difficult to read lit when one is having some kind of allergic reaction in one eye. I was more optically sound earlier today when I bought some books for my classes while I was on campus. I also went to a grad student unionization meeting. It'll be interesting to follow that process along. It sounds like the trigger was some changes last year that SU was talking about making to health insurance availability for GAs.

I got email today about the local neighborhood meetings that my landlord was going to tell me about. Because that's the way the universe works, the next one is on a Tuesday during my one late-night class. I'll have to see if they are always on Tuesdays, because I'd really like to attend.

That bag of pierogies from Wegman's was a great buy. There are *so many pierogies*. 48 of them, in fact, minus the ones I've eaten. I do wish I'd thought to buy some shredded cheese to put on them though.

Well. Someone is in the parking lot yelling very loudly, with a significant amount of profanity, about the cardboard having disappeared from in front of our garbage cans. He's interspersing that with telling whoever he's yelling at (I think it's another tenant) that he knows it's not her fault. He's been at it for several minutes now.

Remind me not to move any cardboard....

For those who have asked and/or are interested, a few snapshots of my apartment at the end of my first week here in Syracuse. Still some work to do, but it's shaping up. The bike in the kitchen hallway actually has a place on the rack above the other bike in front of the window, but it's just kind of easier to leave it in the hall unless I'm moving things in and out.

The landlords are talking about putting a lockable gate on the narrow walkway that goes to the backyard. Then I'd be able to leave whichever bike I'm using, as well as my trailer, back there. That would simplify things a great deal and I really hope it happens. But even if it doesn't, this is workable so far.

The three-quarter-mile walk to the Rite Aid leads me past a medium-sized park and cemetery, as well as a corner store with a name in Arabic script. Maybe I can get Turkish delight there! The Rite-Aid is on the same corner as a Dollar General, a Family Dollar, and a Burger King. It's double dollar corner! Regrettably, the two former were already closed, 'cause I could use an extension cord for this fan!

The neighborhood seems to be partly Spanish speaking. It's dark, and there were a lot of people out on porches or walking around. I'll have to walk or bike through it during the day and see what kind of impression I get. But as far as distance, that's not so bad. I'm looking forward to doing a lot of walking and biking here.
