Mar. 4th, 2003 01:13 amI'm up late 'cause I'm sick. I think I caught whatever my dad had that's been going around. I'm actually feeling better now than I was at work, which I think is due to there being so much talc and sulfur fumes in the warehouse there. However, I'm still feeling rather lousy. I'll probably stay home from work tomorrow. At least then I'll have time to get my pay check into the bank.
Life is pretty good at the moment. I wonder if anyone is getting bored hearing that. I'm not getting bored saying it. Saw Margaret Cho at the Chicago theatre on Saturday with Jim and Dave and Brian. The woman is wonderful. Intelligent, passionate, irreverent, and very funny. Her comedy was good, but what left me feeling the most satisfied were her exhortations to not put up with discrimination; bullying, racism, sexism, homophobia, anything that puts people down. What a joy to hear. What a sadness that it needs to be said. As for the theatre itself, as always, the Chicago theatre is indescribable. If anything could be called living history, it is a theatre, and the Chicago is a shining example of it's kind. What extraordiary beautry may be found in the real craftsmanship of a century past. I could spend a full day lost in her, wandering her halls and aisles, climbing to her lofty spaces above the rest of the world, lying on her stage and dreaming of glory gone and wonders to come. I feel so right being in a theatre. I feel like I'm home. *sigh* A theatre is magic. I hope I wasn't so absorbed in staring at everything that I confused my friends.
On Sunday, we (minus Brian who had to leave), went to a Dim Sum restauant. I'd never eaten at such a place before and was a little leery as I tend to be a picky eater, but Jim told me to just eat what he put in front of me and I'd be a happy doggy. I was. I love the whole Dim Sum thing, with people pushing carts laden with little bamboo steamers frull of scores of diferent dishes around and handing them out to those interested. Someone rolls a cart by and you just point at what you want. I ate quite a lot of things I had never heard of before, all of it very tasty. I was stuffed. I want to go again. I'm getting hungry thinking about it. Maybe I'll take my brother and his girlfriend when we go down to Chicago on Sunday. They want to go to The Alley I was there once with Dave and Jim and told him about it, and now he has to see it too. Hehe. Well, it was interesting. Can't see myself wearing anything from there really, but it was interesting.
Finally on Sunday night, down to two members of our little group, Jim and I went and saw From Cradle 2 Grave, which is an action movie with Jet Li and DMX. I understand DMX is a rap star, though my mind is stuck associating DMX with the digital control protocol for theatrical ligting systems, which is called DMX. Oh well. He was a decent actor for a rap guy. Jet Li was amazing, and the action scenes were awesome. What more do you need from an action movie? Maybe just a little comedy, which was also there. The bit with the gay security guard cracked me up. Not a bad movie. I watch about as many movies in the theatre as I watch TV shows, which means very, very few. Of course, now that friends are dragging me along (with a notable lack of protest), I'm seeing a few more.
And of course, I got to snuggle people. I'd drive all the way down there just for that anytime. Mmmmmmmm.........
