Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] moiracoon and I went out together for a late lunch, and then to the thrift store at Lamb's Farm. I didn't even know there was a thrift store there! I almost bought a five dollar book, but decided against after much deliberation. It was really neat; it was illustrated Beatles lyrics, with commentary by the band members. There were a number of things in it that I can't imagine getting by a modern publishing house. But I have enough stuff. I don't need more.

I had a really nice trip with you Moira; thanks. *hugs*

I'm still planning a trip to DeKalb on Wednesday after work to see that camera. Perseverance still needs the exhaust system redone, but I'll get by. It's not horribly loud once I'm up to cruising speed. I should be able to get there and back on half a tank of gas. Maybe less since it's highway driving. It'll be fun to finally take a long trip with my new steed.

I'm hoping to hear from somebody who wants to look at the Neon either today or Wednesday. If it's Wednesay, it'll need to be before five-thirty, 'cause I need to go.

And [livejournal.com profile] synicism and I are going to the pride parade in Chicago this weekend. I've never been to a pride parade before and I'm really looking forward to it! It'll be really nice to see Syn again too.

The back of my neck is so sunburned; that was not very smart, working out on the car without sunscreen. I just wan't thinking about it. I'm not doing that again. At least this year. I'll forget about it over the winter.

Where is all the time going this year? I was going to have done so much more travelling by the beginning of summer. There's been a lot of change and chaos in my life these days and time is getting away from me.

It's funny how much difference the appearance of something makes. Juan's done a ton of work on Perseverance (Percy?) of course, without which I wouldn't be driving around. But yesterday, I brought all the center console pieces into the house and washed them in the sink, and today I went out with a bowl of water and a washcloth and I washed the instrument cluster and dashboard. I moved my little trio of cetacean plushies in. I hung my little jingly mobile from the sunroof trim. I sat down in my nice clean car and, more than ever before, it really felt like mine.

Mom and I drove out to the Southport Beach House to watch the thunderstorm roll in over Lake Michigan tonight. I jumped up onto the railing at sidewalk's edge, then ran barefoot out to the line of rocks at the water's edge where I stood and looked out over the purple-blue mass of the lake. I felt like the first person on earth, looking out over the trackless waters. Or the last. Had this been at a Rainbow Gathering, I'd have been dancing skyclad in the water.

Mom watched the clouds and talked about the weather pattern and the moving front she saw from the north. She predicted the onset of rain down to the minute; we just barely got into the car before the downpour started. It was a fun little trip.

The road is calling to me. I'm looking forward to four or five hours of driving on Wednesday. I'll be going through Harvard, a neat little town that I really liked the feel of the couple times I've been through. I'll wave hello to Harmilda.

I'm turning road trip ideas over in my head. Posi and I are going to do a weekend trip in his van sooner or later. Hopefully sooner. And I think I may take a week and go drive somewhere this Summer. I don't know that I'll have time or money to get my bedframe built for the car, but I'll just take the passenger seat out and that will give me plenty of room for napping if I have to sleep on the road. I feel a deep need to get out and see. I wish I had a dog to take with me.

I spent my lunch today walking around The Loop again, and I'll do it tomorrow too. Up to the top of the parking garages, then along the river by the site of the Eastland disaster. I did a little math in my head as I stood by the marker and realized that there is likely no one living who witnessed that event. I thought a bit about the passing of time and loss of history as I walked back to work. So much experience is gone with the ages. I need to start doing my interview project and fight the tide.

I should get to bed. It's up at five again tomorrow, and off to the corporate work camps.
